A once in a lifetime chance to take Alaska’s government back from VECO

Sep 23

Below is a rough draft of a proposed advertisement, I am considering producing for TV and radio and newspaper. Some additions and subtractions to those named below may occur after further input from people reviewing this ad. This email is being sent to ask your assistance in paying for this ad.

The narrative of the TV and radio versions will be short enough to enable a complete narrative listing of those who have historically lined up with those who support VECO.

This email was prepared and paid for by Ray Metcalfe, PO box 233890 Anchorage Alaska, 99523. I will carry this campaign to the radio talk shows and generate as much media coverage as I can muster without financial help. If enough financial support is offered, I will form a group named “Citizens for Ethical Government,” specifically for the purpose of airing and publishing the message below.

If you want to take an active roll in “Citizens for Ethical Government,” call Ray Metcalfe at 907-344-4514 or email him at RayinAK@aol.com. You can also write out a check for up to $2000 and send it to “Citizens for Ethical Government,” and send it to the attention of Ray Metcalfe, PO Box 233809, Anchorage AK 99523-3809. Any amount received will be used to tell voters to vote against those listed below.

The ad

Last legislative session, VECO hired Ben Stevens to end Alaska's Permanent Fund Dividend program so more state money would be available for oil company tax breaks.

VECO wagered over a quarter million in bribes that Ben Stevens could make it happen. Ben Stevens bet his entire political career on it… They both lost.

Our Permanent Fund could have grown to three times the size it is today if a majority of both houses of our Legislature, along with Governor Murkowski, and former Governor Knowles, hadn't been giving Alaska’s resources away at bargain basement prices in exchange for enough money to get themselves reelected.

Had this not been the case, earnings from our Permanent Fund would now be sufficient to fill the breach in our economy we are likely to endure due to BP’s neglect and subsequent shut.

Rather than fix Alaska’s hemorrhage of losses, the last act of the last Legislature was to approve a new tax structure that will enable BP to shackle Alaskans with much of the cost of repairing its negligence. A negligence that I believe we will soon discover extends all the way to Valdez.

An easy fifty to sixty billion dollars that should have been in our Permanent Fund is now water under the bridge. However, there is a lot of oil left. Properly managed, Alaska’s remaining oil is still sufficient to grow our Permanent fund to the point that it truly will be Permanent.

We need to stick to our dividends only, hands off policy with our Permanent Fund for now and the foreseeable future. Ben Stevens tried to tap it to relieve the Legislature of pressure to tax oil companies to pay for capitol projects. If we are to truly have a Permanent Fund that stays Permanent, we voters need to “just say no” until we are sure it is big enough to sustain its own growth from re deposits, and pay dividends, and do so without being bled dry by people like Ben Stevens. If we let them, people like Ben Stevens will spend our Permanent Funds last dollar just about the same time VECO’s oil company clients suck our last barrel of oil out of the ground and leave.. That’s about what happened seventy years ago to the coal miners in the Appalachian mountains of Alabama and Mississippi. To this day, they represent the poorest people in America. If we don't get a handle on the people who are trying to rod our state, we may be next.

Tony Knowles tried to do the same. That’s what that vote in 1999 was all about.

Below is a list of incumbent candidates, all of whom either took money from VECO, or VECO’s close associates, or otherwise aggressively helped Ben Stevens as he pushed VECO’s agenda through the Legislature. The list also includes candidates who have not been in the Legislature before, who have a history of aligning themselves with VECO’s backers. Regardless of whether they were directly involved in the corruption or unwitting pawns, a vote to send ANY of those listed below to Juneau, is a vote to sustain the same kind of corruption that has gripped Alaska for twenty years.

Help clean out Alaska’s political cesspool. Please clip the list below, share a copy with your friends, and put a copy in your purse or wallet to make sure you have it handy to know who NOT to vote for when you're standing in the voting booth.

We are planning what is known as an independent expenditure campaign and this notice is required by law (I/We) certify that this (mailing / literature / advertisement)is not authorized, paid for, or approved by the candidates named above or any of their opponents. We are barred by Alaska Statute 15.13.135 from coordinating with candidates who would benefit from our opposition to candidates we believe to be either bought and paid for by VECO or the unwitting pawns of those who are. If you are not a candidate and want to help us take Alaska back from the sleaze that hijacked it, send a check to “Citizens for Ethical Government” Attention Ray Metcalfe, PO Box 233809, Anchorage AK 99523-3809.
